Delaware was settled in 1627 and admitted to the Union on December 7, 1787. With an
area of 2,044 square miles or 5,294 square kilometers, which is divided into three counties
Delaware is ranked 49th in the Union in area. The States population is approximately
668,696 people and it is ranked 46th in the United States in population. The highest point
in the State is Ebright Road with an elevation of 442 feet it is located in the northern part of
the state on the Delaware and Pennsylvania borders. This state has two common names and
is known as either The First State or The Diamond State. The State Flower is the Peach
Blossom and the State Bird is the Blue Hen Chicken.

While Dover is the State capital Wilmington is it’s largest city and the major industrial area
of the State. The major agricultural uses of the land are in the raising of cattle, dairy cattle
and poultry. Along with vegetables (truck farming) they raise sweet corn, potatoes, apples,
wheat, corn, soybeans and melons. There are no major mineral occurrences within the state
of Delaware.

Along the coastline they harvest Oysters, Crabs, Mackerel and Menhaden from the waters.
